APRIL 1, 2020

To our Miravida Living Community – residents, loved ones and staff,

I am writing today to inform you a case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in a resident at Eden Meadows. The resident has been transferred back to the hospital to receive the comprehensive care required to treat the virus. Some of the members of the Eden Meadows team are symptomatic and are currently in self-quarantine. We are making arrangements for them to be tested.

We have notified public health officials and are following procedures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread. We want to make residents, their families, our dedicated staff, and our community aware of this situation and reassure everyone that we are actively monitoring the status of our residents and team.

We understand this information arrives at time of many questions, concern and fear. I am writing to assure you our leadership team is meeting daily to monitor and implement the most up-to-date recommendations by our trusted partners; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Winnebago County Health Department. Since the diagnosis of our resident, we have executed all additional measures available to protect the residents and staff from being infected.

The physical and emotional safety and care of our residents has always been, and remains to be, our priority. As families and visitors remain prohibited to enter our campus, we encourage you to remain in regular communication with our residents through phone calls, video chats and emails. We have also established a link on our webpage for you to send messages and pictures to your loved ones at Message A Resident. We will print and deliver your messages to them.

We remain honored that you have trusted us to care for your loved one and will continue to keep you informed. Please refer to our website regularly for the most up-to-date information.

PREVIOUS MESSAGES

Initial Announcement of COVID-19 to Miravida Living Community.

Team,

We are aware this is a time of many questions with very few answers. I am writing today to let you know what we are doing to keep you and our residents safe. Leaders from across the campus are meeting daily and reviewing our strategies on an ongoing basis.

  • We encourage you to monitor your health closely. All employees are required to be screened, take their temperature and log-in before reporting to work. If you have any respiratory symptoms or a fever, you must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to work.
  • We discourage any unnecessary travel as it may create a high risk for our residents. If anyone travels outside their normal routine, they will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
  • The very few family members with residents actively dying will be asked to follow the CMS requirement of screening, taking their temperature, signing in, wearing a mask while here and only going to the resident’s room.
  • We are further limiting visitors including staff from hospice agencies.
  • Nurse practitioners and related providers will be asked to see residents only when absolutely required. Orders will be done in the space at the front of our buildings.
  • Staff from Accurate Imaging will continue to have access to perform needed labs. The staff will be subject to screening and issued a mask.

Mandatory training for later this week has been canceled. We are looking into virtual training or other ways to remind you of the best practices of infection control.

In the next couple of days, we will be adding a link on the Miravida Living website to provide information and updates. Please check the website daily. Some of you may have concerns that are solely yours, please contact Kari Hawkinson to begin a conversation on how we might work together to resolve them.

I am witnessing your commitment to our residents and one another. While proud of you every day, today, I am inspired by you. The journey ahead is likely to be months and I know we will weather the challenges together. Take care of your health so, you can take care of the residents counting on us to be at our best.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Theresa Bertram
